Dedicated Educators

Instructors are all City of Seattle licensed Steam Engineers with decades of experience

First-Rate Course Offerings

Classes from beginner to already licensed boiler firemen or steam engineers.  Classes are taught in formal classroom settings as well as employer premises.  Classes include field trips to operational plants as well as the Georgetown Steam Plant for an historical perspective.


Refresher classes for steam licenses are also taught in September.

Our Mission

Our mission is to prepare the student for passing the City of Seattle Boiler Fireman or Steam Engineer license examination.  Classes are also taught on a variety of allied subjects including refrigeration systems and electrical systems maintenance.

2018 Fall Boiler Operator's Refresher Class schedule

Saturdays: September 22, 2018 and September 29, 2018    

Seattle City license review, ASME CSD-1, Seattle Mechanical Code, controls, open book test and general safety. Materials provided.

Duration: 8 hours, from 8:00am to 4:30pm. Tuition: $100. 00.

CLASSES HELD AT: The Duwamish Branch of South Seattle Community College 6737 Corson Avenue South, Seattle WA 98108  Room number B117. There are two parking areas; one on Corson and one on East Marginal Way South. Room B117 is in the building to your right as you enter the East Marginal Way South parking lot.

BUS ROUTE: There are many bus routes that stop at or near the Georgetown Center, including Metro bus routes 60, 124, 131, 134, 154, and 173. You can call Metro at 206.553.3000, or check Metro website’s Trip Planner for bus route schedules and times using CORSON AVENUE SOUTH AND EAST MARGINAL WAY SOUTH as your destination.

DRIVING I-5: Take Michigan-Corson exit 162. Go forward on Corson about 8 blocks.

The college campus is on the right side at Corson and East Marginal Way South.

Textbook: Low Pressure Boilers by Steingress. (It is strongly recommended to also purchase the workbook.) Books available at Renton Technical College, University Bookstore (call first to verify that books are in stock), and online. 

Library copies available through the King County Library system. Handouts available to accommodate older editions. There are also many used copies of books available.
